Summary of Opportunity:
As a direct report of the Chief Technology Officer, the Senior Data Engineer assists on a wide range of analytics, business intelligence, and data infrastructure/warehouse initiatives designed to support data-driven business strategies. They will be primarily responsible for implementing ETL processes and well-versed in the design and development of ETL and database developments for a large data warehouse, as well as maintaining and supporting production jobs. The Developer will effectively communicate and work collaboratively with other team members, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) affiliate agency users.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, tunes, and maintains SSIS packages to perform ETL processes.
  • Designs and develops SQL Server stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers to be used during the ETL process.
  • Designs and develops ETL solutions using data integration tools for interfacing between source application and the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Develops ETL technical specifications, designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports optimal data solutions.
  • Documents data mappings, data dictionaries, processes, programs, ETL jobs and solutions as per established standards for data governance.
  • Integrates ETL development with existing projects to maximize object reuse
  • Creates, executes, and documents unit test plans for ETL and data integration processes and programs.
  • Performs problem assessment, resolution, and documentation in existing ETL packages, mapping and workflows in production.
  • Troubleshoots data issues and defects to determine root causes in a timely manner.
  • Conducts performance tuning of the ETL process and SQL queries and recommend and implement ETL and query tuning techniques.
  • Develops and creates transformation queries, views, and stored procedures for ETL processes, and process automations.
  • Meets with shareholders to understand business needs for data automation and creates user specs for team development
  • Creates documentation and delivers trainings on donor management and reporting needs
  • Creates UAT plans, identifies UAT resources from other departments, trains staff on how to UAT and log bugs
  • Creates secure, accessible, custom Power BI dashboards for users using DAX code and tabular data modeling
  • Architects Salesforce solutions to prevent row blocking and CPU timeouts for both batch jobs and User manually inserted or updated records
  • Consults team and helps to implements relational Salesforce data structures to accommodate ease in reporting
  • Works closely with third party consultants to not only train their external developers on our business needs but to ensure the solution to be achieved is sustainable and scalable for the IT team
  • Monitors Salesforce database backups and SQL Data Warehouse backups
  • Performs scripted data subset migrations from one Agency to another when mergers and acquisitions occur
  • Assists with report Case management and customer service for Power BI Users
  • Maintains Azure environments and assures patches and upgrades are installed regularly to prevent data security vulnerabilities

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combined working experience and education

Years of Related Work Experience: 5+ years' experience designing, developing, testing, and implementing ETL solutions using any enterprise ETL tools (SSIS). 3+ years of experience working with high volume data bases and/or big data. Minimum of 3 years expert level knowledge of Enterprise Server technology areas: SQL Server Analysis Server (SSAS) or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

Skills and Knowledge Extensive knowledge of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence including various data modeling methodologies and techniques. Experience in gathering and analyzing business and technical requirements. Experience delivering an ETL solution in a Data Warehouse environment as the team lead. Knowledge of the Data Warehouse lifecycle. Experience in SQL Server performance tuning and administration working with large databases (multiple terabytes or larger). Ability to use and explain all aspects of relational database design, multidimensional database design, OLTP, OLAP, KPIs, Scorecards, and Dashboards. Ability to recommend architecture best practices related to ETL, ELT, BI, and the life cycle of an EDW solution.
