Big Brothers Big Sisters of America ("BBBSA") is hiring a Youth Protection Prevention Specialist to join the National Office of the nation's largest youth empowerment organization.

The Youth Protection Prevention Specialist will collaborate with the Youth Protection team to advance best practices in youth protection and expand child abuse prevention initiatives while facilitating training and providing consultation and technical assistance to BBBS agencies.

The Prevention Specialist will be highly knowledgeable in current trends in youth protection best practice and crisis response, have strong analytical and data gathering skills, and have the ability to manage complex, highly sensitive matters with high attention to detail. The Prevention Specialist will have a bachelors degree and at least 5 years of related experience in a violence prevention and/or victim advocacy-related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Child Protection Response & Prevention

  • Works in partnership with the Director of Youth Protection to develop and promote innovative and effective youth protection best practice strategies, to include, but not limited to policy and procedures for implementation at local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies
  • Consults with BBBS agencies in the implementation of nationwide strategies to strengthen local child safety and youth protection systems
  • Assists crisis response to affiliates experiencing a child safety-related threat or a critical child safety incident, including allegations of child abuse or exploitation.
  • Promotes best practice in youth protection and trauma-informed care (“TIC”) to agencies via BBBSA’s internal peer-sharing network, newsletters, and other means.
  • Collaborates with other organizations as directed to promote child protection best practice
  • Maintains knowledge of current BBBS Standards in addition to federal and state-specific laws related to child abuse and exploitation definitions, reporting requirements, FCRA, EEOC guidelines, and other related laws.

Learning & Development

  • Under the direction of the Director of Youth Protection, supports the planning and implementation of BBBSA’s Youth Protection Summit.
  • Collaborates with the Training team to ensure youth protection training courses are up to date.
  • Delivers youth protection training content to variety of audiences (in-person, online, and webinar-based) and participates in BBBSA regional and national conferences.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities to increase breadth and knowledge in the areas of youth development, youth protection, child abuse and violence prevention.

Technical Assistance

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Youth Protection, prepares internal reporting of BBBSA’s critical child safety incident reporting trends.
  • Assists the Director of Youth Protection in the ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of current performance standards for volunteer enrollment, matching and match support.
  • Provides support in researching and maintaining historical records of child safety-related incidents within BBBS’ programs.
  • Informs management regarding risk management concerns.
  • Adheres to current policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality and accurate recordkeeping and record retention procedures are maintained.
  • Recommends resources to affiliate agencies that support implementation of child abuse prevention and child protection best practice.
