Summary of Opportunity:

The Vice President, JEDI is a direct report of and will collaborate with the Chief People & Culture Officer in shaping the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) strategy for the National Office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) and the network of 230+ affiliated Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies. The Vice President will serve as a subject matter expert on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives to guide the Federation’s JEDI commitment across plans and actions including but not limited to community of practice building, engagement, strategy implementation, and learning and development curriculum, to support awareness and sustainability of JEDI practices and principles. This position will both lead and partner with all BBBSA departments to further operationalize JEDI within the national office and network. The VP will lead development of a formal strategy in alignment with the BBBSA strategic plan and oversee the creation of related toolkits, guidebooks, and other materials. A proven collaborator, this role will work with diverse stakeholders to develop best practices in JEDI that can be used to scale immersion of our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion across the Federation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

JEDI Capacity Building & Support for BBBSA Agencies

  • Drives JEDI-focused development, capacity building and community engagement opportunities, tools, and resources for the National Office and BBBSA agency, leaders and staff.
  • Assists in the design, development, implementation, and innovations of measurable pathways for agencies to integrate JEDI-centric work through agency operations and program support​.
  • Stays abreast of and informs the BBBS and BBBSA community about best practices and trends in social justice, equity, anti-poverty, and anti-racism from both external sources and local agency activities.
  • Creates and delivers visually appealing and informative presentations for use in JEDI curriculum for internal and external.
  • Oversees and will partner with the BBBSA Learning & Development department to create toolkits and learning modules for awareness-building of shared JEDI strategy and objectives.
  • Oversees the JEDI incident response reporting database, related investigations, interim and final investigative reports.
  • Collaborates with DEI other organizational consultants.
  • Liaison for advisory councils, and committee meetings in the National office and the Network. Facilitates the work of the NLC DEI Committee.
  • Drafts, curates and/or reviews JEDI centric newsletters, blogs, op-eds, or social copy for national and/or local engagement communication initiatives.
  • Presents at regional/national conferences on JEDI-focused material as needed. Coordinates with the organizers of the National Conference to ensure DEI training and conversations are an integral part of the agenda.
  • Oversees the cultivation and the delivery of JEDI content that is inspiring, informative, and compelling for internal and external audiences.
  • Builds surveys and other feedback tools to periodically assess the climate of the national office and BBBS agencies growth in JEDI concepts.

Community and Partnership Relations & Stewardship

  • Serves as a facilitator and/or liaison to JEDI-focused internal and external committees, organizing working groups and subcommittees including scheduling meetings, tracking projects, and maintaining regular status updates.
  • Creates and implements innovative pathways that integrate National Partnerships and MOU's into local agency programs, initiatives, and operations.
  • Assists with Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) development, servicing, and engagement of current and prospective JEDI partnerships
  • Collaborates and partners with external partners and cross-functional teams to expand and activate JEDI-centric initiatives and program components in response to community-oriented, equitable goals, strengths, and needs
  • Actively tracks, coordinates, facilitates, and stewards JEDI centric activations, including, but not limited to volunteerism, employee engagement resources and opportunities​, match relationships, and partnership efforts
  • Establishes credibility, trust, and positive communication infrastructures with diverse community leaders and groups.

      Strategy, Process and Administration

      • Develops strategies for community engagement and incorporates equity centric
      • Builds action plans, offers technical assistance and information for groups including
      • Plans and develops community participation processes to ensure representation and
      • Detects appropriate strategies for overcoming barriers and ensures effective and
      • Guides community members/groups in the implementation of processes building
      • Ensures the deliverables of JEDI grant funds are within the scope (budget, capacity, and reports) and guidance of grant award.
      • Alongside other key stakeholders, reviews marketing and messaging of various collateral materials to ensure JEDI lens.
      • Analyzes reports and tracks JEDI-related data from internal Information Technology department’s database to produce trends and develop strategies that align with JEDI goals and objectives.


      • Demonstrates a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion that reflects BBBSA’s commitment to JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion).
      • Creates a dynamic, supportive, and effective consensus-building relationship with key stakeholders both within federated, affiliate model and with legislators that is impactful across the BBBSA network.
      • Leads and manages resources (people and capital) that retains and cultivates positive, measurable success.
      • Monitors progress against performance targets; implements countermeasures as needed.
      • Key strategist and shaper of culture that embraces philanthropic partnerships.
      • Provides consistent follow-up after meetings.
      • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs.

      Education & Related Work Experience

      Education Level: Bachelor’s degree preferred or relevant experience equivalency.

      Years and Type of Related Work Experience: A minimum of 7 years of proven, progressive experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion including leadership in building, operationalizing and working collaboratively to advance an integrated DEI strategy. Experience within a similar, federated or affiliate network preferred, but not required.
