Summary of Opportunity:

As a direct report of the Vice President, Finance, the Senior Director, Federal Grants serves as a functional leader of the Federal Grants department of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). The Senior Director ensures the organization follows and complies with all Federal grant rules and regulations; develops and implements adequate internal controls, policies, procedures, and policies; submits requisite financial management and program performance reports to partners; and effectively executes corrective action in a timely manner

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and communicates information with regard to planning, implementing, and monitoring the Federal grant compliance and program management activities.
  • Oversees and monitors the implementation of the federal grant compliance activities. Designs, develops, implements and directs compliance and program management operational procedures and verifies whether that BBBSA meets government, standards—including coordinating full compliance with corrective actions.
  • Manages the BBBSA federal grant administration, program management, reporting and submission process; supports development of and analyzes effectiveness of the grant compliance, administration, and program management functions to maximize team and organizational efficiency
  • Reports on a regular basis on the progress of implementation and establishing methods to improve efficiency and quality of services.
  • Periodically revises compliance and program management policies and procedures. Maintains familiarity with laws implemented by the federal and state governance bodies; supports public and private business development initiatives that support federal grant programs.
  • Provides guidance to BBBSA regarding compliance rules and regulations and how best to implement them ensuring on-going relationships.
  • Develops and will steward collaborative relationships with government agencies. Provides strategies for programs with government partners.
  • Supports Grant Compliance/Quality Assurance efforts with grant writing, budgeting, compliance, and program management support on all federal funding opportunities.
  • Assists with responses to government queries. Prepares and timely submits all reporting documentation to federal grant sponsors.
  • Approves FFR, DTCAT, and draw down request ensuring compliance with federal guidelines
  • Monitors all sub-recipient registration in SAM twice a year.
  • In collaborative partnership with the Learning and Development department, creates and participates in educational and training activities that focus on elements of compliance and program management, and seeks to ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with, pertinent federal, state, and other standards.

  • Direct supervision of approximately 4 team members and indirect management of 10 or more Federal Grant Accountants.

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Direct experience equivalency specific to core responsibilities of the role; Bachelor’s Degree or other educational certification in non-profit management, business or a related field preferred, but not required.

Years of Related Work Experience: 7-10 years of direct experience working on federal grants including experience with grant administration. Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal responsibility for grant funds. Proven track record in the development and writing of complex federal grant applications and reports. Demonstrated ability of federal grants management, program performance, data retrieval, and report writing skills. Superior knowledge of federal and state grant relations, prospect research and stewardship. Proven project management experience. Intermediate MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
