Big Brothers Big Sisters of America located in Tampa, FL is seeking a Director of Finance to support the Finance Department in Tampa, FL. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for supervising an accounting department of approximately 3-5 staff members. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in either Accounting or Finance, 5-8 years of non-profit Accounting experience, and a minimum of 3 years of recent, direct supervisory experience of both exempt and non-exempt level staff.

The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate a capacity for effective decision-making.

Position Purpose

Ensures effectiveness and compliance of the finance/accounting functions for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Manages fiscal functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and ethical standards. Ensures the highest degree of organizational integrity and transparency. Manages the revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, audit and agency compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the General Accounting and Financial Reporting, ensuring best-practices systems and procedures are documented and implemented in accordance with GAAP, for all BBBSA financial/accounting processes. Ensure staff skill levels are appropriate, and that adequate resources are in place.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place.
  • Leads, manages, motivates and develops staff members so they achieve their objectives, maximize their potential, contribute their best and effectively collaborate with others.
  • Assists CFO in the annual of budget.
  • Serves as Financial Point of Contact on federal grants, including completion of Federal Finance Report (FFR)
  • Implements systems and processes to ensure BBBSA expenses are well managed, and do not exceed budget.
  • Provides month-end financial reports, including cash flow, payroll salaries to proper expense accounts, analyzes all expense accounts, bank reconciliations and grant reconciliations to the CFO
  • Oversees the accounts payable process. Manages staff accountant/partner activities. Ensures proper systems and procedures in place. Ensures questions from vendors and staff regarding invoices are resolved in a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the online submission of the yearly 1099/1096 tax forms.
  • Oversees Accounts Receivables. Manages staff to ensure proper monthly billing of agency dues and technology fees as well as manage collections, providing monthly reporting to CFO.
  • Coordinates year-end audit & prepares all pertinent schedules for the auditors. Makes all correcting post-closing journal entries.
  • Reviews of budgets for grant proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
